In the case of opting for a CET at 120 credits, you will be given 7 extra units to top up your qualification in order to be able to apply for a top-up degree at the end of your CET and DET.

If you have done previous courses or qualifications which could be accredited (eg/ PTLLS/ AET), you have an Accreditation of Prior Learning interview with your tutor to identify what evidence can be carried forward.

You will need to have completed the Award in Education and Training, PTLLS, or an equivalent qualification. Learners who are already in a teaching position may be given a place into this course.

• Course duration – 4 or 6 months

A considerable number of learners join the CET/ DET course without holding a degree, bachelor or HND prior commencing. If the learner decides to top up their CET from 36 credits -basic- to 120 credits. This will allow them, after they have completed their CET 120 credits and DET to apply for a top-up degree at the university of their choice. Avoiding them to undertake a 3-years degree and decrease considerably the cost comparing to what they would have spent in year 1 and year 2 of a degree - £9k per year minimum-.

We strongly encourage students without degree to opt for this option and finally reach the goal of having a degree and pursue further later on in their life!

The objective of this qualification is to confirm occupational competence in a teaching role within the workplace.

You can progress onto Diploma in Education and Training (DET), Level 5, or a University Certification in Education.

Completion of the course enables you to meet the minimum requirement for those employed as a teacher or trainer in Further Education colleges, Adult Education centres or Work-Based learning.

To obtain QTLS and become fully qualified as a teacher, you will need to complete your DET first before registering.
